If you have you ever heard that a substance named collagen exist in the structure of our skin, well, this collagen is a protein with a very important structural role here. The ageing phenomena is characterised, among others, by a deterioration of collagen fibres in the skin, thereby the quantity and the quality is decreasing.
There are more and more collagen-containing products, which aggressively promise the sun and the moon for your skin. But the collagen in your skin is synthetised internally, from your body’s resources, from molecules called amino acids.
Any protein you are swallowing, be it animal protein as chicken breast, vegetal protein as soya or nuts or collagen drinks / supplements, is ripped apart in the stomach and small intestine, resulting particles small enough to be absorbed in the bloodstream through small intestine wall – amino acids. Each protein contains hundreds – thousands amino acids, thereby they are too big to be absorbed as they are.
No one knows if your skin collagen is formed from last week barbecue, from your yesterday’s breakfast oats or from the last year’s tomatoes from your grandparents.
Collagen drinks and supplements are not sending the collagen miraculously through stomach and guts into your skin. As if you eat brain (maybe not in your country, but in Romania we use to eat pork’s brain cooked like a schnitzel), the brain does not go, undigested, into the head, making your own brain bigger or adding some intelligence. But it would be a wonderful thing if this was possible.
